Yoga Month at Discover: More Than Movement
September is Yoga Month, and this year I wanted to do something that felt a little more meaningful than just running a special.
Yoga has carried me through some of the hardest seasons of my life.
Through grief. Through trauma. Through loss. Through times when I didn’t really recognize myself anymore.
It has given me somewhere to come back to.
Not because yoga magically fixes everything. It doesn’t.
But it has helped me stay present when life felt overwhelming. It has helped me feel my body again when I wanted to disconnect from it. It has given me tools to breathe, to move, to sit with hard things, and to slowly find my way back to myself.
And honestly, that is a huge part of why Discover Yoga exists.
Yoga is movement, yes. But it is also community. It is connection. It is having a place where you can walk in exactly as you are and know that you do not have to perform.
You do not have to be flexible enough.
You do not have to be calm enough.
You do not have to be “good” at yoga.
You just have to show up.
This Yoga Month, we wanted to find a way to pay some of that forward.
For the month of September, our regular yoga classes are pay what you can, with a $10 minimum.
Online, you’ll see options for $10, $15, $20, or $25. In person, you can choose any amount over $10.
Why not just make everything free?
Because I also want to be really transparent: we are a small business. We have teachers to pay, rent, utilities, software, supplies, and a real studio to keep open.
Accessibility matters to me deeply, but so does sustainability.
I want Discover Yoga to be here for the long haul.
So this is our way of meeting in the middle.
If $10 is what works for you right now, come practice for $10.
If you have the ability to give a little more, your contribution helps support the studio, our teachers, and the person beside you who may only be able to give the minimum.
That is what community can look like.
We are also making Yoga Month a little fun.
Every day you practice with us in September is one entry to win three months of unlimited yoga.
There is a community board in the studio where you can mark off your practices, cheer each other on, and watch the month fill up.
It is not about who practices the most.
It is not a competition to see who can “win” yoga.
It is simply a reason to show up.
To try the class you have been nervous about.
To come back after time away.
To bring a friend.
To practice on a hard day.
To practice on a really good day.
To remember that yoga can be part of your life without needing to become your whole life.
That is the kind of practice I believe in.
A practice that meets you where you are.
A practice that helps you live a little more fully in your own body and your own life.
A practice rooted in connection, not perfection.
If yoga has helped you through something, I hope you know how much I understand that.
And if you have never practiced before, maybe September is your month to discover what yoga can mean for you.
Come as you are.
Practice when you can.
Pay what you can.
And help us keep building a community where more people get to experience what this practice can offer.
Happy Yoga Month.
I’ll see you on the mat.
