Voices of Discover: Meet

Voices of Discover is a monthly series highlighting the people who make up our community—students, teachers, and the voices behind the mats.

This month, we’re sharing Brooke’s story and how her yoga practice has evolved over the last four years at Discover Yoga.

What Brooke Does Outside the Studio

Q: What do you do outside of the studio?

Brooke works with the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana–Michiana, overseeing summer camps and girl-facing programming. Outside of work, she loves reading, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and longboarding—when the weather allows. Yoga has been a helpful complement to staying balanced, strong, and grounded through it all.

What Brought Brooke to Discover Yoga

Q: What brought you to Discover Yoga?

Brooke discovered yoga while living in Florida and quickly noticed how much it supported her physically and mentally. When she moved back to Fort Wayne, she didn’t want to lose the progress she had made, so she signed up for Discover Yoga. From her very first class, she felt welcomed and supported, and she’s been practicing multiple times a week ever since.

How Her Practice Has Changed Over Time

Q: How did you feel before your first class compared to now?

Physically, Brooke remembers the moment she touched her toes for the first time—something she couldn’t do when she started. More importantly, her practice has helped her slow down, center herself, and create space in her life to pause. Yoga has become an hour where she can step away from everything else and focus on breath, movement, and presence.

Her Favorite Part of Practice Right Now

Q: What is your favorite part of your practice right now?

Brooke shares that her focus has shifted from chasing challenging poses to deepening the connection between her breath and her movement. She’s learned to release expectations and listen more closely to her body, recognizing that how she moves matters more than what the pose looks like.

How Yoga Supports Her Outside the Studio

Q: What has this practice helped you with outside of the studio?

Yoga has helped Brooke clarify what’s important and release unnecessary pressure she places on herself. She’s become more aware of her inner dialogue and has learned to approach herself with greater kindness, patience, and grace—allowing space for mistakes and growth.

What Discover Yoga Means to Her

Q: What stands out most about Discover Yoga?

For Brooke, the Discover Yoga community is what truly sets the studio apart. She describes it as a place where people are genuinely excited to see one another, where support is mutual, and where everyone—regardless of experience level—feels welcomed.

Advice for Someone Nervous to Try Their First Class

Q: What would you say to someone who’s nervous to try their first class?

Brooke encourages anyone feeling hesitant to not be afraid. New students are welcomed fully and supported right away, often becoming part of a close-knit community that extends beyond the mat. If you’re looking for a practice that supports you inside and out, she believes Discover Yoga is a place where you’ll feel right at home.

Closing

Brooke’s story is one of many voices that make up the Discover Yoga community. Each person brings their own experience, growth, and intention to the mat—and together, those voices create something truly special.
